When satisfying Scottish Heritage in the refurbishment of one of the most prestigious addresses in Edinburgh's Princes Street, attention to detail and a vast amount of experience is called upon. Replicating these works of art from a bygone era especially when artists impressions were all that were provided, can be challenging to say the least!
Using clay to form the prototype and Glassfibre moulds, Capvond recreated using its stonecast process identical replicas of the past, that not only look real but feel real as well. Fixed with a stainless steel pin and filled with concrete, these masterpieces of a bygone age past look down on the unsuspecting citizens below with elegance and grace.
The replica stone balustrades and plinths below were created to produce a lightweight alternative to stone, and to supply a product which could be easily fixed to the kit built structure and allow for the shrinkage and differing properties of the stone façade and the timber frame.
